American Youth Leadership Program to Mexico

American Youth Leadership Program to Mexico

The AYLP program to Mexico took place in 2016 and provided 18 Massachusetts’ high school students, three teacher/escorts and an ITD staff person the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about life in the Chiapas State of Mexico. The American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) is a Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs leadership training and exchange program for U.S. high school students and adult mentors. While in Mexico, students met with academics, agricultural extensionists, NGO leaders, urban social workers, small farmers, community leaders, social activists and others.  AYLP students developed small projects that they then applied to their own communities and schools back home. ITD’s partner in Mexico was Cecropia- Soluciones locales a retos globales based in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
