American Youth Leadership Program to El Salvador

The American Youth Leadership Program (AYLP) is a Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs leadership training and exchange program for U.S. high school students and adult mentors. In 2015 18 U.S. students and three teachers/escorts were selected to travel to El Salvador.  There they gained first-hand knowledge about life in El Salvador through homestays with local families, language lessons, leadership training and community service opportunities.  Students experienced Salvadoran society and culture with a special emphasis on food security and nutrition.   ITD’s partner in El Salvador was the university Escuela de Comunicación Mónica Herrera (ECMH) based in San Salvador.
