The ITD House, owned and operated by the Institute for Training and Development (ITD), and located in a quiet neighborhood walking distance to downtown Amherst, is often referred to as the Burnett House. It was built in 1898 by William A. Burnett, a prominent Amherst businessman from New York. The beautiful Colonial Revival style mansion stands out because of its elegant historical features that are recognized by the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
ITD House
The ITD House provides lodging to our international participants during their academic exchanges. The house has twelve bedrooms and seven bathrooms, a spacious dining room, and a large living room which is equipped as an educational theater. Past participants are united in their enthusiasm for its comfort and welcoming atmosphere, in addition to the beautifully elegant and historic features. With private bedrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors, the entire first floor is a gathering area for formal workshops or spontaneous socializing. The ITD House location allows for an easy walk to restaurants, cafes, Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts.
When not hosting international groups, ITD opens the house to Airbnb guests, small family reunions, workshops and small conferences. It is an ideal spot for a number of small gatherings. Contact the ITD office for more information.
