The Professional Fellows Program experience for me is one of the most important things that is happening in my professional life. First, I consider that just by traveling to the US and seeing how much I can learn from a business is a splendid way to learn best practices and processes. The learning and exchanges that I have been able to have from my Professional Host is useful and pleasant since through her and her work, I have had the opportunity to meet many people who are involved in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, as a result of my placement at Monument Women’s Creative Alliance.
So far, I have had the opportunity to meet women with successful businesses, and have learned what their experiences have been like. For example, I had the opportunity to connect with Monique Jenkins, an entrepreneur of Ladies, Wine and Design of Baltimore, who shared about her experience as a women creating events to connect alliances and foster networking, helping other people on her marketing agency business, I learned about her experience on social media, and how important is LinkedIn is to create these connections.
My favorite moment of the day is when I learn (in the different spaces to connect) about being a woman in business. As a business advisor, I am committed to remaining relevant- to train in topics that strengthen the work and dedication of many women. Through this Fellowship I know that I will obtain the answers to what my country needs, and that is development in our communities, my help will be from the business side.
In Central America we have many social barriers that often at an international level stagnate the way in which we make ourselves known. I have the challenge during this Fellowship, to talk about how beautiful my country is and all the good things it has, to demonstrate that we are working people.
My host, Hazel Geary, has been wonderful connecting me with other people and learning a lot about women’s empowerment in the area, success stories and best practices. She actually created a special networking event, and I’m the special guest to get business insights and create connections. The event will be held on May 28 and I’m so excited for this initiative!!
