Secondary School Educators

The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary School Educators is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) for the purpose of improving education about the U.S. in secondary schools and academic institutions worldwide.

ITD has been administering the Secondary Educators Program in some form almost every year since 1998! Currently ITD is partnering with the Mansfield Center and California State University, Chico to bring sixty dedicated educators and administrators selected through a highly competitive global process to the U.S. each summer. The 20 educators hosted by ITD in Amherst examine the U.S. democratic system, especially the tension between individual rights and social responsibilities. Educators then travel to Utah and Washington, DC to gain a broader perspective about the United States. As part of the program, educators develop curriculum units and other projects to be implemented in their home countries and shared.
